New AEK manager Manolo Jimenez arrived in Athens on Saturday in a warm reception by several of the club’s fans at the airport, an illustration of the huge expectations AEK have from the Spanish coach.
The ex-Sevilla manager signed his two-year contract on Saturday and directed his first training session at the AEK training center on Sunday, in the presence of about 50 AEK fans, too.
The Spaniard, who will host a press conference on Monday, was quite cautious in his first words as AEK’s gaffer, avoiding to promise titles and trophies.
“I am very happy to be here. I did not expect such a reception,” he said at the airport.
“I hope I do not let all these people down. I shall give 100 percent of myself and do everything I can for AEK,” added Jimenez.
He has asked for a house at Spata, close to the new training center of AEK that is set to start operating at the end of this month.
AEK’s next game is on Sunday at Aris for the Super League.
