Olympiakos are now four points clear on the top of the Super League, after a 5-0 drubbing of Panionios at home.
It was hardly a fast bounce back from last week’s derby loss, though – the Reds took 35 minutes to score the opener.
Kevin Mirallas broke Panionios’s defence, with a strike from outside the box after a long run down the field.
In the 52nd minute, Vassilis Torosidis widened the lead to 2-0 with a flick from inside a packed Panionios penalty box.
Mirallas scored again in the 69th minute, after a winning pass from Albert Riera.
The Belgian now has five goals in eight Super League matches, putting him just two goal;s behind the league’s top scorer, Djibril Cisse.
Ten minutes later it was 4-0 when Krizstian Nemeth broke away from his marker, giving Marko Pantelic an easy tap.
The fifth and final goal came from Albert Riera in the third minute of stoppage time.
The win puts Olympiakos on 21 points after nine games.
Panathinaikos have 17 and do not play until Monday when they will travel to Atromitos because of Sunday’s local elections.
The other most notable result of the day was in the Peloponnese, where Panserraikos moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over in-form local side Asteras Tripolis despite playing almost a whole half with 10 men.
In Saturday’s other game, Olympiakos Volou beat Kerkyra 1-0.
