Spring is in the air and it’s picnic time for the parishioners and members of the youth group for St Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church Blacktown.

“Last year’s event was a huge success with over 80 people there,” Susie Kotrolos, youth group director, St Paraskevi, said. Even more are expected this year.

“I run the youth group SPYCE (ST Paraskevi Youth Club Evenings) and it’s a group that invites youth from the ages of 6 -18. We meet on a monthly basis. We talk about differing issues and religious issues. We have outings and organise fund-raisers for our church and our community.”

The church community has booked an area at Nurrangingy Reserve for the event, so there will be plenty of space for everyone to play soccer and cricket. There are also swings and other playground equipment for the younger children. Picnic goers can bring their own plate of food and the community has provided a barbecue for people to bring meat to be cooked on the day.

The event will take place at Nurragingy Reserve, Knox Raod, Doonside, on Sunday 11 September from 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm. For more information please call Susie Kotrolos on 0439 664 521
