The Australian Hellenic Memorial will commemorate ten years of the building of the memorial on the 25 September. And to celebrate, all the names of the Australian soldiers who lost their lives in Greece, will be read out on the day. The 840 soldiers will be honoured during a service held at the memorial in the beautiful Domain Gardens in Melbourne.
The Australian Hellenic Memorial symbolises the respect and love of Greek Australians towards the children of Australia who remain forever under Greek soil. The memorial was built to remember the faith and dedication of Greeks and Australians to the ideals of democracy and freedom. It also symbolises further bonds of blood and friendship developed on the battle fields, aiming to teach future generations the importance of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries – Australia and Greece.
The Australian Hellenic Memorial has been built with the support of the Australian, Hellenic and Victorian Governments.
