The AFL has boosted the pay offer to players to $1.144 billion over the next 5 years, in a deal set to lift the average player’s minimum payments to just under $300,000, but the League has not entertained the players’ major issue of receiving a fixed percentage of AFL revenue.
The AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) could still reject the League’s offer and take administrative steps through Fair Work Australia to prepare for industrial action as a last resort. The AFL has set the 15th September as a dead-line for an answer in resolving the impasse, but it remains doubtful the players will voice their decision before that date.
