A generous $300,000 donation by Peter and Maria Copulos and family has been instrumental in the development of a state-of-the-art oncology unit in Shepparton Regional Hospital, in Victoria.

As a result of this donation, the building will be named the Peter Copulos Cancer and Wellness Centre. Peter Copulos is a prominent business man, property developer and philanthropist in Shepparton.

He is very committed to cancer research and the Shepparton community. In the speech made when the Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan officially opened the unit, he personally thanked the Copulos family for their “enormous generosity” and the naming sign was revealed. Ryan, along with the Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell, representatives of Goulburn Valley (GV) Health and the community, joined together to celebrate the completion of the $1.9 million oncology unit.

“The new purpose-built oncology facility will provide a much more comfortable environment for people undergoing chemotherapy treatment as well as for their visitors and staff,” Ryan said. “It’s also expected the improved facilities will help in the ongoing recruitment of health professionals to the region. “GV Health has already been successful in recruiting two much-needed oncologists who are both expected to start work at the facility by the end of the year,” Ryan said.

The new facility will include 10 chairs, two bed medical day stay oncology unit, specialist oncology consulting rooms, a breast care nurse’s office, a patient education and resource room and a pathology collection centre.
