An armed robber dressed as an employee of a contracting firm netted around 1 million euros after holding up a branch of Alpha Bank at Athens International Airport late last Sunday.

The man reportedly told bank employees that he had arrived to take measurements as part of a planned revamp for the branch, police said. He persuaded clerks to lead him to the vault where he took out his gun and forced them to fill his bag with cash before locking them in the vault and fleeing with the loot. Police said they were inspecting footage from surveillance cameras outside the airport that reportedly shows a man with three large bags leaving in a taxi.
