A cookbook has just been released inspired entirely by the multicultural residents of Marrickville in Sydney’s inner-west.
Eat Streets: A Culinary Adventure Through 150 Years of Marrickville Council was released to celebrate the township’s 15th anniversary and traces its history back to its humble beginnings as a rural outpost to the bustling cosmopolitan hub of food and entertainment it now is. Marrickville Mayor, Councillor Fiona Byrne, also described Marrickville as a rich cultural hub.
“I love that…Marrickville itself is Greek and now increasingly, Vietnamese. That Petersham is Portuguese. Stanmore is Italian. That Dulwich Hill has a large Arabic-speaking community and Sydney’s only Egyptian restaurant,” she said. Aiming to represent the local community the cookbook contains 50 recipes, all modern takes on some of the Marrickville area’s well-known flavours.
Eat Streets is available now from the Council’s four libraries in Marrickville, Stanmore, Dulwich Hill and St Peters.
