This year’s NUGAS Annual Ball was regarded by past and present members as one of the best NUGAS balls to date. The event, held on Sunday 25 September, saw students celebrate the success of 2011 for NUGAS.

Held at one of Victoria’s largest and most prestigious venues, Peninsula Receptions at Docklands, over 1200 Greek Australian students enjoyed a night filled with dancing, eating and laughter. Entertainment was provided by DJs Georgie-T and George Vogiatzis who kept the crowd moving and shaking with all the latest tunes from Greece. It was only when the traditional dimotika songs came on that the dance floor was inundated with Greek Australian students showing off their Hellenic pride. The night ended with a classic zembekiko for all to dance.

A three-course meal kept the guests fed, and drinks were flowing freely all night. Dessert was definitely a highlights. An enormous cake designed in the letters of NUGAS with a Greek flag attached, it kept everyone talking. The debut of an interview segment throughout the night, run by the crew of the NUGAS radio show Ta Leme, also helped distinguish the evening with attendees able to share their excitement and enthusiasm at being a part of the ball. Even though the ball was in Victoria, NUGAS members from all over Australia attended, showing that the spirit of NUGAS lives on in Australia.
