St George Orthodox Church in Thebarton is now fully functional again with work on the noise abatement program, funded by the Australian Government, completed.
The church had to close down for four months on the 17 May and reopened on 2 October just in time for spring / summer weddings. The renovations were inevitable for the church and community hall as both were built within the flight path to Adelaide airport. After careful consideration, the community of St George decided to close down the church for four months to ensure the project could be completed more quickly.
A temporary church was housed in the community hall. Father Diogenis Patsouris and the community of St George Orthodox Church said that they were grateful to all the parishioners and visitors to the church and college for their support, understanding and patience and cooperation during the four months of renovations.
