The Thailand floods are set to hit the city of Bangkok threatening ancient temples and palaces and, “killing the heart of the tourism trade for this South East Asian metropolis,” declared the Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

“We cannot hold the water back forever,” Ms Yingluck said, “the longer we block the water, the higher it gets.”

The Thai Government has to choose which parts of the city it will allow water to travel through to minimise the impact on Bangkok.

Even though the armed forces and thousands of volunteers are working frantically to protect the city and the country, the floods have already claimed the lives of 315 people having swamped a third of Thailand.

There is also risk that foreigners could be trapped, by staying in tourist sites affected by floods.
