At least ten dead whales have been found washed up on Corfu beaches in recent days.
Coast guard officials said that fishermen had reported sightings of more dead mammals but that these have yet to be verified. The Archipelagos marine protection institute has reportedly taken tissue samples from the whales’ bodies which are to be submitted for toxicological tests so that it can be determined whether marine pollution, military exercises or oil exploration contributed to their death.
