Defending Greek Super League champions Olympiakos Pireaus have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the table following a 1-0 victory over Atromitos on Wednesday.
The league leaders, who have played two more games than their nearest rivals Panathinaikos, snatched the narrow win thanks to a goal by Ivan Marcano.
Panathinaikos, currently second with two games in hand, was disappointing and came mighty close to its second loss of the season at Panaitolikos.
Henri Camara gave the home side the lead just after the hour mark and PAO looked certain for a loss until Toche struck a very late equaliser, scoring in the fourth minute of time added on.
Panathinaikos suffered more damage as its central defender Jean-Alain Boumsong will likely miss next month’s action after breaking a toe.
PAOK fans bid farewell to departing Pablo Contreras and Adelino Vieirinha in an emotional moment before celebrating their club’s 3-1 home win over lowly Levadiakos, thanks to two goals by Stefanos Athanasiadis and one by Vladan Ivic. Stefano Napoleoni pulled one back for Levadiakos.
Xanthi came from behind to beat Ergotelis 2-1 in Crete, with striker Marko Markovski scoring twice to take his tally this season to eight goals. Nikos Katsikokeris had given Ergotelis a short-lived lead.
Struggling Kerkyra scored a precious home win over Aris with a 1-0 score. New signing Juan Martin scored for the Corfu side.
On Tuesday, Doxa Dramas sprang a major upset as it held AEK to a scoreless draw in Athens to take what was only its second point in the league so far.
AEK became the second team this season after Panionios to fail to beat lowly Doxa, and the Drama club even managed to hit the woodwork early in the second half at the Olympic Stadium. The hosts had a few close chances of their own late in the game, however Steve Belleck and Roger Guerero both failed to find the net.
At Nea Smyrni, Panionios defeated Asteras 2-0 through goals by Dimitris Kolovos and Fanouris Goundoulakis to steer clear of the drop zone. Panionios missed a second-half penalty as Njazi Kuqi hit the ball over the bar.
PAS and OFI shared an entertaining 0-0 draw at Ioannina that only left the visitors happy, who are in seventh place on the table.
