Jason and the Argonauts journeyed far in search of The Golden Fleece – maybe someone should have told him it was in Melbourne. Golden Fleece Hotel in South Melbourne will host their first ‘Greek Night’ this Friday November 3 at 6 pm.

Hellenes and friends can immerse themselves in everything Greek – food, music and drinks.

Neos Kosmos talked to James (Michalopoulos) Barnes, the Event Manager, who said the Golden Fleece “wants to embrace Greek culture through food, dance and music, for all to enjoy.”

“We want to bring something fresh to South Melbourne that showcases our beautiful venue and ensure everybody has a great time,” James said.

James said that it would be a Santorini-style or island restaurant that would bring people back to the good times they had in Greece. “Our executive chef is Greek, and he’s put together a menu from his upbringing and with recipes from his yiayia and papou,” James told Neos Kosmos.

In the ticket offer, there is gyros, “but people can order from the main menu if they want,” said James.

“We want to provide a transportive experience for people who might not be able to get away to Greece and just want to remember the good times they had there.

“We want the Mediterranean to wash over people as the aroma of the food and the sweet sounds of live bouzouki bring memories of Greece, the islands and good times alive for everyone,” James said.

Gyros and charcoal spit, cold beer, and Aegean-inspired cocktails are bound to enhance the experience.
