Hot on the heels of the 3D TV push of 2011, audiophiles are getting all hot and sweaty with the thought of 3D audio. That’s right; some sound boffins have come up with technology which produces 3D audio from a 2-speaker stereo system.

Sonic Emotion (www.sonicemotion.com) demonstrated their Absolute 3D audio solution at CES last month. The technology was so impressive that it earned the start-up a coveted CES 2012 Innovation Design and Engineering Award. Once activated, the 3D sound encapsulates the listener in a cocoon-like audio listening environment. The sound waves create an amazing listening experience which is difficult to explain, but is easy to recognise.

The company have released their Headquake iPhone app on the App Store, and have a number of licensed products due to ship in the coming months.
