The Patio at the Margi in Athens has been named among the best new restaurants around the world to try in 2017 according to CNN.

The kitchen headed by chef Panagiotis Giakalis serves up Mediterranean flavours that are created using fresh and organic produce from the venue’s very own farm, taking the finished product to the next level.

“The Margi Hotel’s new restaurant allows chef Panagiotis Giakalis to raid the property’s farm for the finest Mediterranean produce, before crafting them into a choice of gourmet degustation menus that set a new standard for contemporary Greek cuisine,” said CNN, which listed the restaurant among 18 others across the globe including Australia’s own COMO The Treasury’s Wildflower in Perth.

Giakalis comes with an impressive CV having worked alongside French legend Eric Frechon and in Michelin-starred kitchens in both Milan and Paris.

At The Patio, situated in the boutique hotel’s – yes you guessed it – beautiful patio, patrons are offered a choice of degustation menus, which showcase the best of the region’s cuisine, or can opt for the a la carte menu.

Owned by Maria Stavridis and her son, architect Giagkos Agiostratitis the pair have managed to create a space that is both stylish and welcoming with candlit tables that makes for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
