Vera Xanthis and Goran Boskovski have joined forces in the newly-opened Fig & Walnut cafe at 11-13 Bellairs Avenue, Seddon.
Vera takes Mediterranean cuisine to a whole new level, while Goran brings his coffee expertise to the table.
“I’m not a chef, I’m a passionate home cook and I’ve managed to establish my own catering business,” Vera tells Neos Kosmos.
“My husband and his family own the Alfa Bakehouse, which is also in Seddon, and I’m now venturing on my own into this project of love, Fig & Walnut.”
Combining their sound knowledge and a great range of the best products and brands on the market, Vera and Goran have created a warm, hearty gem offering interesting flavour combinations.
The menu has many Greek influences, however, we would describe it as European with Spanish, Italian and French-inspired culinary options.
“To realise Fig & Walnut I’ve partnered with Goran, who is an amazing coffee specialist and owner of Kinship & CO cafe in the city,” Vera goes on.
“We actually studied drama together in the late 1980s and reconnected through our daughters, who do gymnastics.
“We married our skills up – food and coffee – and decided to offer the community a unique experience,” she enthuses.
The fit-out has a vintage, rustic flair and the overall feel is quite homey yet stylish.
It’s ideal for suburban breakfast and brunch escapades with strong, aromatic coffee blends and cold-pressed juices that will never disappoint.
We totally recommend you try the beetroot fritters with avocado, salmon and the 63 degree eggs poached to perfection.
The marinated lamb ribs, seafood and chorizo stew, and mushroom grostini also have our vote.
