A week is a long time in Consumer Electronics. It wasn’t that long ago we were scouring the department stores looking for the coolest and best Christmas gadgets to max out our credit cards.

Now the mother of all trade shows is about to roll into Las Vegas. With over 140,000 people expected to make the annual pilgrimage to the Consumer Electronics Show next week, the town will once again be filled with gadgets and geeks. And with around 50,000 products on show, there should be plenty of new and exciting innovations to whet our 2012 tech appetite.

So what can we expect to see at this year’s show? Well, the usual suspects will be there showing off their new bigger-and-thinner-than-last-years-model televisions. Connected TVs (or “Smart TVs” to the informed consumer) will also start to multiply like Gremlins, with more TV apps becoming available on the various app stores to support the growing consumer demand for web-connected products. There is a lot of gossip floating around that Apple will unveil their highly anticipated Internet television at the show. I personally don’t believe this will happen.

Knowing Apple, they will choose a slow news month to get maximum press exposure and hype value. After all, no-one does it better than Apple when it comes to exciting product launches! I’ll be attending the show again this year and will send through product news straight from the exhibition floor.
