It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to owner and head chef Alexandros Vasileiou, Sunshine Beach is about to experience Greek cuisine for the first time.
Apollonio, the only Hellenic eatery in Noosa just opened its doors on Thursday, offering scrumptious food and great service right out of Duke Street, in the heart of the busy area.
“This is the only Greek restaurant in the Noosa area. All of the food will be authentic and fresh – this is what I pride myself on,” chef Vasileiou said, explaining that he wanted his restaurant to have a homey feel with a laid back, inviting style – more suitable to the bustling everyday rhythms of Sunshine Beach.
“I want people to enjoy themselves here in traditional Greek style,” he added.
“We offer delicious food and an inviting atmosphere. Come, eat, drink, share and laugh.”
For Vasileiou’s family the food and hospitality industry has developed into a familial tradition, with their experience spanning three generations. He himself, succeeding a long line of acclaimed chefs, has headed the kitchens of some of Greece’s most prestigious five-star resorts, from the Blue Palace in Elouda and Costa Navarino in the Peloponnese, to the Kaldera Palace in the heart of Heraklion, Crete.
Moussaka, souvlaki, slow-baked lamb, haloumi and loukoumades are only a few of the classic Greek flavours he plans to introduce to the region while he has also prepared a wide range of mouth-watering Mediterranean delicacies that will satisfy even the most demanding customer. A selection of Greek and local wines will also be available.
It is worth mentioning that Vasileiou has previously worked at Sydney’s award-winning Greek restaurant 1821.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing my flavours to to Sunshine Beach,” he said.
“Everyone loves Greek food. Whether they have been to Greece or not, we will make them feel like they are there.”
