In the lead up to the Lonsdale St Greek Festival, organisers are on the hunt for Melbourne’s best pita.

When it comes to the type of pita, the criteria is open to interpretation, whether it be a classic Greek recipe such as tyropita, spanakopita, prasopita, kreotopita or galatopita – or something with an unusual or unexpected twist, as long as your pita entails a wrapped filling or layers in filo pastry.

Participants are required to fill out an online application form, and bring along a tray of their flaky creation to be judged by a panel of expert foodies.

Each pita dish is required to be presented in a 5 cm deep, 30 x 38 cm (base) baking dish.

Judging will take place this Saturday 16 February, exactly one week before the 2019 Lonsdale St Greek Festival.

What’s next? Well the winner who walks away with the title of Melbourne’s Best Pita, will be invited to present their winning dish on the Procal Cooking Stage during the festival to share their recipe and tips with a live audience.

In addition to the title and the platform to share their know-how, there are also some exciting foodie prizes up for grabs.

Do you think your pita, or that of someone else you know, is second to none and can impress the likes of some of Melbourne’s best Greek cooks and industry professionals?

If you think you have what it takes, it’s time to start baking and complete the application form.

Please note: Applications will close when a maximum number of applicants has been reached. Only successful applicants will be contacted. All judges’ decisions are final.
