Tennis ace Nick Kyrgios won the Mexico Open on Saturday night for his fifth ATP Tour title, beating second-seeded Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-4 at The Princess Mundo Imperial.

The 23-year-old is ranked 72nd in the world, however he beat second-ranked Rafael Nadal in the second round, then knocked off Zverev (No. 3) and John Isner (No. 5) to reach the final. He also beat three-time grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka.

Kyrgios won the Open playing on hardcourt surfaces during an epic week for the Australian who was criticised by Nadal as showing a “lack of respect”.

“He lacks respect for the crowd, his opponent and towards himself,” Nadal had said of Kyrgios following his loss.

“I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but he lacks a little respect for the public and the rival.”
