Flavours of Greece, brings you four weeks of foodie events featuring delectable Greek food, decadent desserts, gastronomic trivia and Barbaresso Oyzo, who are proudly sponsoring the event.
Melbourne’s leading Greek speciality chefs and restaurants will share their favourite dishes, and some of their secrets, through a selection of specially-designed dinners inspired by the flavours that make Greek food so unique and loved across the globe.
Now in its third year, the 2012 Flavours of Greece program presents a mix of regional cuisine, classic feasts and contemporary Greek cuisine.
Angela Nicolettou will host an intimate dinner at her new cooking school Angela’s Kitchen, with a menu celebrating food from Smyrne, which includes an entree of braised cuttlefish and stuffed mussels followed by spiced meatballs and pilaf.
Vas Donoudis, who recently opened Shed 5 at South Wharf with Sydney restaurateur Stan Sarris, will be offering a feast of Macedonian dishes including tyrokafteri (hot pepper and cheese dip) and trahana (delicious wintery soup of milk and wheat).
Philip Vakos puts a Made in Greece stamp on his special menu at the recently re-launched Spitiko in South Melbourne.
Travis McAuley from Hellenic Republic combines his passion for Greek food and fresh produce to create an enticing menu, complimented with matching Greek wines.
Salona will delight with a five-course menu evoking the rustic village dining experience. Think grilled kidney crepinette, rabbit liver braised with shallots, and roasted lamb’s head with brain and raisin pilaf.
Philhellene stays true to its provincial cuisine, focusing on southern Greek island cooking.
Matt Germanchis at Pei Modern will be using locally sourced produce by Greek-Australians to present a contemporary Greek menu. To celebrate the arrival of spring, the Greek Deli Taverna in South Yarra will be putting on a traditional Whole Roast Suckling Pig Dinner.
Kri Kri will host a fun night of Greek Trivia, complete with good food, prizes and Barbaresso Oyzo cocktails. And leave room for a special dessert degustation experience from Dream Greek Patisserie.
