It was a momentous occasion for PAOK crowned Super League champions, ending a long and painful 34-year wait for the title. A huge celebration on the city’s waterfront drew tens of thousands of fans to the city’s iconic White Tower.

Fans waited to greet PAOK’s players as their bus inched forward.

A pyrotechnic-filled party made it a night to remember.

The celebrations followed a day of high emotions at Toumba stadium saw PAOK win the third league title in its history, and the first in 34 years. The celebrations began after the new Super League champion defeated Levadiakos 5-0 to retain its five-point average over Olympiakos with just one game to play.

Yevhen Shakhv scored twice for the hosts, and there were goals from Diego Biseswar, Fernando Varela and Karol Swiderski.

PAOK, also known as Dikefalos tou Vorra, had won the league title in 1976 and 1985. Second-place Olympiakos, winner of 44 titles, are on 72 whereas PAOK is on 77 points with one game left in the season.

Olympiakos defeated host Lamia 3-1, and in other games Aris won 2-1 at Panetolikos and Xanthi eclipsed Apollon Smyrnis 2-0.

This is the first time in three decades, from 1987-1990, that there have been three different league champions in the last three years.
