Both Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and main opposition Labor party leader Bill Shorten have sent Easter messages to Christians for 2019. A great feast for Greek Orthodox Christians, leaders stressed the importance of the occasion ahead of the 18 May elections.
PM Scott Morrison hopes for ‘reflection and renewal’
At Easter, Australians join Christians around the world to proclaim the joy and grace at the centre of the Christian faith. For Christians, Easter is a time for reflection and renewal of contemplating the story of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, and his enduring promise of forgiveness.
In recalling the sacrifices made for us, we are reminded of the obligation we all have to each other and of the timeless Gospel admonition to “Love one another as i have loved you”.
This Easter, I pay tribute to the influence of the Christian faith on our land. This faith has seen the sick tended in hospitals; the children educated in schools; the poor supported by Christian charities; the lonely comforted by church communities and countless lives provided with strength and support.
May all of us be encouraged in our commitment to serve others and to uphold the values that we celebrate today.
Labor Leader Bill Shorten wishes all “Καλό Πάσχα”
It gives me great pleasure to send my best wishes to the Australian Greek community on the occasion of Greek Orthodox Easter.
Easter is a deeply spiritual time for the Greek Orthodox community as people come together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Greek Orthodox community in Australia has helped to shape our national fabric with the spirit and values of their Christian ancestry over many years of successful migration. Every generation, every community has added a new layer to our story and to the success of our multicultural nation.
On behalf of the Federal Parliamentary Labor Party, I pay tribute to the ongoing contribution of the Greek Orthodox Church and congregation.
I wish you all a joyous Easter celebration with your family and loved ones.
Καλό Πάσχα! Καλή Ανάσταση!
