Greek celebrity chef Akis Petretzikis broke a Guinness World Record for cooking up 3,378 burgers in an hour. Petretzikis and his team cooked up the record-breaking burgers as part of the Coca Cola and Akis Food Tour Festival in Thessaloniki on Thursday.

A Guinness representative was present to verify the win, which breaks the previous world record where 2,200 burgers were created within the space of an hour.

The winning burgers were then distributed to those present free of charge.

Thessaloniki-born Petretzikis initially left his birthplace to train to become an accountant in Athens, however he soon realised that his real love was cooking. He followed his dream by attending classes at the Le Monde School of Culinary Arts, graduating in 2009, but also getting his degree in accounting. After working at various hotels around Greece, he moved to England to enrich his knowledge of the culinary arts while working with famous chefs and at hotels such as The Goring.

In Greece, he skyrocketed to fame after taking part in MEGA channel’s ‘The Master Chef’ where he won first place as well as recognition.
