Orthodox faithful in Melbourne are in the mourning following the death of Father Nicholas Vrettakos.
Father Vrettakos was the parish priest at the Presentation of Our Lady to the Temple Church in North Balwyn, where he served the community for a number of years.
Archbishop Makarios announced the priest’s passing late Thursday night.
At the news of his passing, well-known lawyer and writer, Dean Kalymniou took to Facebook to express his condolences.
“I first met Father Nicholas Vrettakos about 20 years ago when I assisted him for some time on the religious segment on radio station 3AB. Humble, approachable and pragmatic, he served without fanfare and we all loved him,” wrote Kalymniou.
“His death is a loss for the entire Greek community of Melbourne. Kalo sou paradeiso, Father. ”

According to Archbishop Makarios, Father Vrettakos “went peacefully”.
