It has been a particularly cold winter in Melbourne. In fact winter records have been broken, and there is still a way to go.

While many of us wake up in and return to a warm home, for the most underprivileged in our society this time of year is very difficult, felt most by those living on the streets and families doing it tough.

In a bid to lend a helping hand, Father George Frangos from the Dormition Of Our Lady Greek Orthodox Church in Altona North together with a group of volunteers, is seeking to collect warm clothes to be distributed to those in need.

The call out is for jackets, hoodies, tracksuit pants, and beanies – or any other clothing items suitable for winter – preferably new, or in close to new condition.

Anyone in the position to help is encouraged to do so.

Volunteers will come together once goods are collected to package items, and distribute them.

The initiative is part of a grassroots charity being established by Fr George under the name of GoCare. Still in its infant stage, the idea is to create the opportunity for people to undertake active Christian fellowship in the community.
