A 44-year-old French woman has been arrested and taken to Heraklion police headquarters in Crete to be questioned about the murder of a 53-year-old French man found stabbed to death with a pair of scissors.

The couple were on their holidays on the island and had rented a room at the Tsoutsoura, a village on the south coast of Crete.

The man was found stabbed in the chest in his rented rooms in the early hours of Tuesday and was discovered by the owners of the rooms for rent who immediately contacted emergency services. An ambulance crew arrived but it was impossible to revive the man.

The man’s wife is the chief suspect of the investigations so far.
