Greece’s Deputy Minister for Expatriate Greeks, Antonis Diamataris met on Wednesday in Athens with Chair of the Greek Festival of Sydney, Nia Karteris.

Mr Diamataris is responsible for matters pertaining to Greeks abroad.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues, including the vote for expatriate Greeks, as well as the need for Greek language teachers from Greece in Australia.

Meanwhile another focus of the discussion was the upcoming 200th anniversary of the 1821 Greek War of Independence in 2020, and the coordination of commemorative events.

Joining Mr Diamataris and Ms Karteris were Greek diaspora affiliates Konstantinos Apoifis and Molly Chiotis.

“I had the joy of meeting today with the Chair of the Greek Festival of Sydney Ms Nia Karteris and fellow Greeks Konstantinos Apoifis and Molly Chiotis,” Mr Diamataris posted on his official Twitter account on Wednesday.

To follow on Thursday, the Minister met with the recently appointment Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia Makarios.
