While the official announcement is still pending, Neos Kosmos can reveal that Yiota Nega is the artist who will headline Melbourne’s Lonsdale Street Greek Festival and Sydney’s Greek Festival coming up in early 2020.

And whether the name rings a bell or not, rest assured that her majestic voice and performance will be one to remember.

Nega has been a professional singer since 1990, but it wasn’t until 2003 that she released her first single album with the song ‘Me ta matia kleista‘ which became her first hit.

As the Athens-born artist stated in a recent interview with Greece’s People magazine: “I had come to terms with the thought I would never have my own songs or become known to the wider public and successful in my industry. And then everything came together. It just happened in a magical way. And I welcomed the shift…”

Over recent years, Nega’s popularity rose exponentially placing her amongst the country’s top representatives of the entehno and contemporary laiko genres.

Some of her greatest successes are ‘To dikio mou‘, ‘Anoihtoi Logariasmoi’ (soundtrack of the film Jamaica) and ‘Eho anthropo‘, while her latest single release titled ‘Dyo nisia‘ was in 2019.

Sydney’s 38th Greek Festival in Darling Harbour and Melbourne’s 33rd Lonsdale Street Greek Festival will be held on Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March 2020.
