Panos Triantafyllou has won gold in the men’s sabre B competition at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation’s (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Amsterdam.

Representing his native Greece, Triantafyllou faced Russia’s Istvan Tarjanyi in the final, successfully beating his opponent 15-9.

Poland’s Adrian Castro was in second place, and Italy’s Gianmarco Paolucci took out the bronze.

The Greek was in a good position to take out the gold, with five wins and only one defeat to his name.

Meanwhile he managed to impress with his performance in the classification matches, winning nine out of 10 matches, including his big win against Poland’s Adrian Castro at the Paralympic Championship in Rio, 15-9.

In 2016, Triantafyllou won silver at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

This week’s win sees the fencer in good stead to represent Greece at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
