A Greek-Turkish newspaper Anatoli reports that three masked intruders broke into the house of Patriarch Bartholomew on Saturday.
The incident took place on Saturday when the Ecumenical Patriarch was at a function for the diaspora and the only person on the premises was his house-keeper.
CCTV footage showed the three men breaking into the house, however it is unknown whether the three men stole anything.
Patriarch Bartholomew’s residence is part of a complex in Istanbul which is guarded by a private security company and it is still unclear how the burglars managed to enter the home without being detected.
Turkish police have launched an investigation into the incident.
