Over 90 members of the Hellenic Medical Society of Australia and their guests celebrated their end-of -year function at the Eleven40 Studio and Events in Malvern Melbourne last week.

The special guests to event included Victorian Minister for Health and for Ambulance Services Jenny Mikakos, State Member for Oakleigh District Steve Dimopoulos, and Bill Papastergiadis OAM, the president of the Greek Community of Melbourne.

Ms Mikakos thanked the HMSA for its commitment to the health of the broader community and said she was impressed by the role of doctors of Hellenic descent who were involved in health governance in Victoria. She also announced the appointment of Professor Marinis Pirpiris to the newly formed Victorian Perioperative Consultative Council.

The HMSA has focused on community activities that strengthen ties between doctors, the community, as well as with the Australian and Greek healthcare systems.

Medical practitioners (doctors, including medical students) who want to join the HMSA should access the website for information on membership.

The new year will also see the addition to the site of the HMSA “Doctor finder directory”, where the public and professionals can search for a specialist or other doctor of their choice. The public can also visit the site for further information; visit: www.hmsa.org.au
