Just a few short weeks ago, before social distancing became the norm, a morning tea fundraiser was held at St Anna’s Hellenic Centre, Gold Coast, to raise funds to buy a defibrillator for the centre.

Acting on professional advice, the Ladies Auxiliary decided it was important to have a defribrillator at the centre given the large numbers of people who came to the church and used the community centre. The 80 people who attended the fundraiser function on 11 March agreed.

Dr George Bilios, the Accident and Emergency Doctor at Pindara Private Hospital, explained to the audience the need for this important equipment to be available at the centre in a medical emergency.

Through donations and raffles, $5,000 was collected which will cover the cost of buying a defibrillator for St Anna’s Hellenic Centre.
