On the Greek island of Amorgos, a team of employees at the Aegialis Hotel & Spa are hand making eco-friendly masks.
The face masks come in different designs and are washable so that they can be re-used.
Neos Kosmos spoke to the hotel’s CEO Irene Giannakopoulos who says the idea came from the younger generation.
Ms Giannakopoulos says, “Honestly it was our children who saw there was a shortage of masks… hotels were given orders to close down until 30 April, and so to keep some people employed, Stamatis and Stavros came up with the idea so that we could keep our staff working and to provide something to the public.”
When the first batch was made, staff distributed them out to the residents of the island at no cost.
The mask features two layers of organic muslin and another of 100 percent cotton, along with adjustable straps and a flexible nose piece. They also come in 3 sizes for adults and a separate range for children.

“We have selected designs so that they’re bright and cheerful so that they don’t feel so clinical…and we’ve made sure that they are environmentally friendly and hygienic with the right care,” says Ms Giannakopoulos.
A-mask ships their products worldwide, with the team working to add Australia to the list.

“The price may seem expensive at first, but it means in the future people won’t have to keep buying single-use masks which contribute to the detriment of the environment,” she says.
