On 14 May the famed Omonia Square was handed back to the citizens and visitors of Athens.

The square lit up thanks to its new 30 metre wide fountain with a central jet that propels the water to a height of up to 20 metres, has a total of 188 water beams and 177 underwater headlights that create a pandemonium of light and colour.

The fountain is also surrounded by a lawn that covers the remaining area of the square made from environmentally friendly materials that help lower the temperature of the area in the summer months.

The renovations are part of the wider works by the Municipality of Athens dubbed the “Great Walk”.
