A year ago, on 26 May 2019, Courtney Herron’s body was found lifeless in Royal Park, Melbourne, after a “horrendous bashing”.

Maxie Antoniou, her mother, told The Age that it seemed like yesterday that homicide detectives delivered the news of her daughter’s death to her. A small memorial was carried out with a group of family and friends on Monday, with the family priest performing a service at Courtney’s grave which is shared with her pappou.

Young Courtney (Konstandina), was raised in Melbourne’s northern suburbs in a Greek-Australian family.

Henry Hammond, 27, pleaded not guilty to her murder when he fronted court in December and the case is still continuing in the Supreme Court.

“I just don’t want her to be forgotten and I want justice to be done for her. And I will keep fighting until that happens,” Mrs Antoniou said, as she prays that “justice” is served for her daughter.

“May Courtney rest in paradise, eternally safe with her Papouli.”

She said that she will not stop fighting for Courtney and that she will never be forgotten.
