Court documents allege that former Greek Australian politician Milton Orkopoulos, 62, raped a young boy several times and then gave him money.

The former NSW Labor minister and Lake Macquarie Councillor appeared in prison greens and thick black glasses at Newcastle Court today in a video screening from Long Bay Prison in Sydney.

He remained silent while appearing on screen from a maximum security cell after being arrested in Silverwater Prison in Western Australia and charged with 14 new child sex offences.

Three of the charges included forcing a child into prostitution while all but two of the charges relate to one of the alleged victims. Charges include five counts of aggravated sexual assault and five counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The offences allegedly occurred when Mr Orkopoulos served as Lake Macquarie Councillor. The court documents allege he raped an 11-year-old boy three times at Caves Beach and once at Swansea in December 1998. He also was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault at Seals Rocks on the Mid-North Coast against another boy.

Mr Orkopoulos has already spent 11 and a half years in jail for convictions of 30 drug, child sex and child pornography charges. These took place from 1995 through to 2006, and during the time he was elected into NSW Parliament in 1999 and while serving as NSW Aboriginal Affairs Minister from 2005.

After being released from prison he breached his parole on two occasions. He didn’t apply for bail and will front Newcastle Court again on 20 August.
