On Monday 6 July the National Public Health Organisation (EODY) announced Greece has 43 new confirmed cases of coronavirus.

As Greece prepares to welcome visitors for the summer, there are concerns of the virus reemerging in large numbers as 36 of those new cases are reported to come from tourists who tested upon entry into the country.

The 36 cases were detected at the Promahonas border crossing station in northern Greece; of these, 20 came from Serbia and 16 from other countries.

The Greek government had announced the day prior that due to a recent spike of cases in Belgrade, Serbian nationals would not be allowed to enter.

The government has implemented a variety of health and safety protocols in hopes it will prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including testing, quarantine hotels and requiring tourists to self-isolate.
