Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis posted a photograph onto his Instagram account featuring himself, his wife, Mareva, Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson holding their new Greek passports.

The snapshot was captured on the small island of Antiparos where the Hollywood power couple have a summer house, and the caption stated that they are now “proud Greek citizens”.

Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos offered the Hanks and Wilson, who has Greek origins, honorary Greek citizenship on 27 December last year for their charitable contribution to Greece.

The photo caused mixed reaction due to the fact that the PM and his wife were on a weekend getaway when the country was on alert due to tension with Turkey.

Greece’s leader also visited the performance of The Persians at Epidaurus on the weekend.
