Many Greeks took to the beach on the weekend after the country experienced unusually high temperatures for January, usually a month of cold.

In central parts of Greece temperatures climbed to 21 degrees Celsius, whereas Crete had a pleasant 26 degrees Celsius.

Athenians took to Alimos, Vouliagmeni and beaches of the coastal strip to enjoy the warm weather despite lockdown.

In the Peloponnese, people flocked to beaches in the region.

The temperatures were among the warmest to date though the record for January’s highest temperatures in Greece was 30.4 degrees Celsius registered in Crete on 1 January, 2010.
