Stefanos Tsitsipas will be meeting Rafael Nadal at 7:30pm AEDT at Rod Laver Arena in hopes to fulfil his new year’s resolution of beating the world no.2.

The Spaniard is bidding to add a 21st Grand Slam title to his collection, with his eye on replicating his win against the 22-year-old as he did two years ago in Melbourne.

Tsitsipas defeated Roger Federer at Melbourne Park in 2019, putting himself into the quarter finals but his run was cut short by Nadal.

It will be the game to watch, as Tsitsipas fights to beat Nadal who has won six of their seven meetings.

The 34-year-old was a bit worried about his physical state just before the Australia Open, coming off of missing out on the ATP Cup due to lower back strain. He does however remain optimistic about his chances.

“I was able to win four matches already, so now I’m going to have a very tough opponent and need to play my best,” Nadal said in his post match interview against Fabio Fognini.

If the Greek tennis star makes it past the experienced Spaniard, he will be a step closer to being the youngest Australian Open men’s singles champion since Novak Djokovic in 2008.
