Name:

Fotis Vergopoulos.

Your greatest achieve-ment(s)?

My greatest achievement so far is that I fell in love with Greek traditional music. Nowadays believe me, it is an achievement. The songs and the music in general that the discographic companies promote in the last few years aim to just earn more and more money from it and not to give good music to people.

How did you get to where you are now?

Hours and hours of listening to music and years of training playing instruments.

Your greatest challenge?

To be a good person.

Goal(s) for the future

To get and play as many instruments as I can.

Best moment of my life?

When I first picked up a bouzouki for the first time to learn how to play.

One word that describes you the best?

Musicmaniac.

Person(s) you most admire and why?

My family…Especially my dad because he was the one that gave me the first dose of this drug which is called Greek Traditional and Folk music.
Best thing about being Greek-Australian?
I don’t know what is good about it. Being from two countries its interesting because you can meet different people and cultures and in our case different musicians.

If I could say anything to the Greek community…

To all families: Make your children speak proper Greek and try to introduce them into authentic Greek music (Smyrnaiika, Rebetika , Nisiotika etc).

Funniest Greek moment:

My sister came without telling me last year from Greece. She comes in the room and she goes, “Hi!”. I just dropped my bouzouki- it was funny and scary at the same time.

Favourite place to go or hang out at?

Wherever good music is being played.

Song that I can’t get out of my head at the moment?

Μουρμούρικο.

Favourite Greek food?

Fasolakia.

I can’t live without…

My instruments.

If I was Kevin Rudd for a day I would…

Play music all day.
