Motley Crue has been named as just one of the rock scene’s top acts anticipated to tour Greece this year and the concept of returning to his homeland has brought a tear to bad boy drummer Tommy Lee’s eye.

The band will hit the road for the 2009 European summer season as part of their tour Crue Fest 2: The White Trash Circus. The tour kicks off in Ohio on May 17 before visiting a number of cities across the globe and North America, including Athens.

Tommy Lee was born in Athens, Greece, to mother Vassiliki Papadimitriou and father David Lee Thomas Bass, and has expressed great enthusiasm to be returning to his “hometown” to play a show.

In a recent interview with the LA Times, Lee explained, “I’ve never played there and it’s my hometown. I’m so excited, I swear, I’m going to cry dude”.

The eccentric musician then went to on to describe his favourite piece of Greece in his hometown of today California, “One of my favourite spots is Taverna Tony in Malibu… There’s one thing I always order, because it’s a real comfort food for me and that’s  avgolemono”.

The original Crue Fest was held last year, playing to nearly half a million rock fans. It was named the number 10 tour of 2008 by Rolling Stone magazine.
