From inception up until the setting up process, how did you start your business?
Futsal Oz was officially established in February 2006.
After playing Futsal for over 15 years I decided to establish my very own Futsal League and Junior Oz clinic and I thought what better place to start then from my old high school, Brunswick High School “GYM”.
The Brunswick sports stadium “GYM” was a success, with professional personnel and well run Leagues.
So I decided to put together the plan for the first purpose built Futsal stadium, with courts imported from France and a world class look and this is how the Victorian Futsal Stadium was born.
What’s so special about Futsal?
Futsal is the only indoor game sanctioned by FIFA (World Soccer Federation).
If skills development is important, Futsal is recognised as clearly the best form of football.
Futsal promotes quality touches; We believe Futsal is a must for all children before they play outdoor Football.
With quick restart, smaller grounds and unlimited substitutions the game is fast non-stop action.
It encourages players not to panic whilst with the ball, hence improving decision making.
Playing Futsal allows you more opportunities to get involved in the game.
How popular is it in Australia generally and in Melbourne particularly?
Futsal is the new rage in Australian Football.
However, as is often the case, Australia is just catching on to what the world already knows.
Superior football skill is built by simulating the outdoor game indoors with small sided games and a smaller ball.
World famous clubs such as FC Barcelona have used this approach for years.
Futsal has been around for over 75 years but Australian interest in football skill development has only recently focused attention on the training techniques used in successful football powerhouses such as Brazil, Spain and Italy.
So, Futsal has been around for many years but interest is just starting to explode making it the fastest growing sport in Melbourne and overall in the land of down under.
What would you say stands out as the comparative advantage of your business over the competition?
All my competitors are working towards the same goal and that is to promote and grow this beautiful game.
I suppose the obvious advantages are; our purpose built world class stadium, the Victorian Futsal Stadium in Brunswick.
Our devoted volunteers and staff who are passionate about the world game, and of course the LEGEA V-LEAGUE premiership (the highest standard in Victoria) with League highlights and a TV show the Futbol Town Show aired on our web site www.futsaloz.com.au under Futsal Oz TV.
How is business currently?
We’re doing well; we are currently concentrating on junior development.
Inner City FC in association with Futsal Oz and its affiliated body the FFV is a junior based club for 5 to 12 year olds.
The aim is to prepare players for the transition to outdoor, training twice a week with qualified coaches and playing a League game on the weekend.
Inner City FC is a modern Australian club with a window into the future of world Football.
What is your vision for the future of your business?
Futsal Oz is committed in growing football and reaching new heights creating a natural progression from starter to superstar.
