miRoamer, founded by Greek Australian George Parthimos has been awarded the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) 2009 iAward in the media and entertainment category.

AIIA’s iAwards recognize Australia’s most outstanding information and communications technology (ICT) innovators.

miRoamer was selected for their introduction of the world’s first Internet car radio, which gives drivers access to the world’s largest and most diverse selection of Internet radio content through their car stereo.

George Parthimos and miRoamer will now go on to represent Australia in the Asian information and communications technology awards in December.

Blaupunkt has teamed up with miRoamer to produce the first Internet car stereo.

This partnership will enable drivers to tune into miRoamer’s tens of thousands of radio stations.

Users’ favourite Internet radio stations can be easily chosen via clearly arranged information on a large screen display, enriched by state-of-the art performance in terms of car multimedia and consumer electronics connectivity.

Mr Parthimos said to Neos Kosmos that German automakers such as Mercedes and BMW have already started providing Internet car radios on their luxury models as part of their basic equipment package.

In Australia it is expected to be released in the wider market on March 2010 at a cost comparable to other car audio systems.

The anticipated monthly cost of listening in to your favourite Internet radio stations from across the world will be $15.

Mr Parthimos’ company based in Doncaster is preparing for another significant business move next month as it will enter the German stock market in Frankfurt.
