Greece’s U/19 basketball team will arrive in Melbourne this week to make its final preparations ahead of the FIBA U/19 World Championship in Auckland next week.

At the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center, Greece’s future stars will take on Australia, Spain and France in the warm-up four nation tournament.

The Greek youth travelled to Croatia this week for three warm-up friendly matches against the Croat U/19 side.

The first match finished 92-92, while Greece edged out their hosts 102-97 in the second match. The third match will be played on Sunday night (Melbourne time).

Meanwhile, the Australian Emus have been impressive in their tour of France in the previous two weeks, with solid wins in the Douai Tournament.

Though the French defeated the Emus 68-65 in their final match, the Aussie youngsters impressed with wins against USA, Canada and the French junior team.

Lithuania inflicted the Emus with their first defeat in the tournament.

Greece open their account on Friday June 26 against Spain at 6pm.

Then on Saturday night the youngsters face host nation Australia at 8pm before what is expected to be a big crowd. Greece completes its preparation the following day (Sunday) with a 2pm match against France.

Tournament and family passes are available and each session includes two matches, and the low ticket price should encourage Greek Australians and Australian fans alike to support the two sides.
