Two women, who were alleged to have received phone calls from the woman who is the alleged rape victim in the Theophanous hearing during and after the incident, have denied ever receiving the calls.

Their denial runs contrary to evidence by the alleged victim earlier in the week claiming that she called several friends after the alleged incident to tell them she was distressed by an encounter with Mr Theophanous.

The Age reports that the two women had no memory of any calls and that they would have remembered if they had received calls from the alleged victim.

One of the two women also said that she ended the friendship because the woman was trying to force her to give false evidence against the state Labor MP.

She wanted me to help her out with the case,” the woman said. “She was coaching me to say things. She was asking me to give false evidence.”

The court also heard about a series of letters and emails betweee the alleged victim and the  women.

One of the women denied the legitimacy of the emails supposed exchanged between them while the other said that the first she heard of the alleged rape was when a lawyer acting for the alleged victim rang her to discuss providing a statement for a civil case.

The two women gave evidence today after the court heard the alleged victim was not well enough to continue with her evidence.

The committal hearing continues tomorrow where the alleged victim is expected to resume giving her evidence.
