Former Melbourne Victory and South Melbourne goal keeper Michael Theoklitos has been unveiled by third-tier English side Norwich City.

The 28-year-old Greek-Aussie has signed a two-year deal and Canaries management are “delighted” with the signing.

‘Maki’, as he is known in Melbourne also holds Greek citizenship, and was a free agent after his contract expired with his A-League club.

It will be his second English stint after failing to get a hold at his former club, Blackpool, with whom he played just three games in 2002.

Theoklitos, Norwich manager Bryan Gunn’s fourth signing of the summer, will be a contender for the goalkeeping jersey left by last season’s number one David Marshall, who has joined Cardiff City.

Gunn told the BBC, “Michael has always been the number one target this summer, so obviously I’m delighted he’s put pen to paper.”

“Although other clubs were interested in trying to sign him he wanted to come and play for us,” he continued.

“We were very impressed with both his goalkeeping and also his personality. He will be a massive presence,” Gunn enthused.

Norwich were relegated in 2008/09 from the Championship to League One.
