The Olympian Society of Australia is hoping that its community regeneration dinner dance this week will be met with enthusiasm by younger generations.

Organiser, John Polidoras hopes that more young people will join once they understand that the association is modern and not just about, “the old Greek ways.”

“The Olympian committee, like many others is ageing and new members are needed,” he said.

“The dinner dance will be an opportunity for people to get together and share ideas. We will lay out a plan about how we will move forward and hope to find volunteers to join our committee and subcommittees.”

The Olympian Society evolved to provide support and a community spirit to the many Greek People of the Olympia region who immigrated to Australia, with no or very limited language skills and job prospects, but who had the strong desire to build a better life and future for themselves and their children.

To honour the original generation and Olympian culture, Mr Polidoras has developed a website: www.olympiansociety.com

“We hope that the website will further our traditions and ideals and promote them so that they are relevant not just to us but to our children and their descendants.
By embracing technology such as the internet, email and other features of the digital age, we can all share in the knowledge, ideas and future direction of the Greek Olympian Society in Australia.”

The dinner dance will take place from 6.30pm on Saturday, July 25 at the Olympian Society Building, 317 Victoria Road Thornbury. For more information, contact John Polidoras: 0412 166 220.
